Ancient Egypt

Bastet is the Egyptian goddess worshiped as early as the Second Dynasty (2890 BCE).  She played a very significant role from protecting the home from bad eye, evil spirits and sickness, especially diseases connected with women and children. Bastet was the daughter of the sun god Ra and is affiliated with the concept of the Eye of Ra (the all-seeing eye) and the Distant Goddess linking to transformation.

Zoroastrianism

The ancient Persian religion that may have originated as early as 4,000 years ago had their own theory on cats.  The cat Gurbag claims to have been created by the Evil Spirit, and in the Pahlavi texts it is classed in the much despised “wolf species.”

Celtic

The Cat Sìth is a fairy creature from Celtic mythology, said to resemble a large black cat with a white spot on its chest. Legend has it that the spectral cat haunts the Scottish Highlands was not a fairy, but a witch that could transform into a cat nine times.
