Ladders similar to a staircase bridges two forces in your life, a gradual process of gaining knowledge, virtue, or obtaining success.
When it comes to dreaming we must take into account how the dream is trying to communicate with you. The ladder becomes metaphoric in your life that reflects the ups and down, advancement, or the objects that might be out of reach.
On a spiritual level ladders are the symbolic bridge between humans and higher consciousness, or an unconscious connection.
- Achieving or failed goals,
- Higher level of consciousness,
- Connection with higher self,
- Ascension or kundalini,
- Social or corporate ladder.
Ladder Dream Meaning
In my experience climbing up a ladder has always been a profound symbol relating to success in my life. This doesn’t necessarily imply financial gain but a precognitive symbol of a particular advancement in your life.
The ladders enigmatic nature may reflect advancement in your career, a spiritual acknowledgment, or some sort of conscious awareness. In the Bible the ladder was used to show the connection between man and God (see below).
As you are climbing the ladder you are given clues to you location, how many rungs on the ladder, people around you, and going up with ease.
Ladder Dreams: Carrying & Wooden
Often times we are carrying a ladder in our dreams that represents waiting for the time to advance in your life. You might be looking for a solid ground, right timing, and location before you start to move up.
Dreaming of a wooden ladder reflects mobility, grounding, warmth and naturalness. Are you moving up or down? A symbol that advances your kind nature, yin energy, feminine energy – bridging this with a powerful source within.
Jacob’s Ladder Dream In The Bible
In Genesis 28:10-12 was the first mention of ‘Jacob’s Ladder’ when it states, “Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.
Jacob then had a dream in which he saw a stairway/ladder resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.”
The ladder can be interpreted as the connection between Heaven and Earth; Consciousness and Unconsciousness. Though, there are many different interpretations of what the latter represents. In the Bible, Jacob’s ladder established the relationship between man and God, and there are seven rungs on the ladder of virtue.
Ladder Steps Rungs: Energy Rising
The rungs are significant when it comes to ladders in dreams. Take Jacob’s Ladder for example and the description of the 7 rungs. This might translate to the steps connecting to the Divine, personal revelation or to direct Communion with the Divine.
Kundalini in Hinduism relates to the snake coiled at the base of the spine. This is divine feminine energy remains dormant until activated. Similar to the 7 rung on the ladder, the 7 body chakras once activated reaches the divine spark.

Then I had a very strange surreal dream I woke up somewhere other than my bedroom and I saw a this ladder in some field and they were spot of angels descending from what seemed to be a long ladder and I saw over 40 angels and possibly more descending from its top point and more climbing and floating down… Read more »
Hello Nine. Very interesting dream or vision. So what you are saying you had no actual account of knowing or ever hearing about Jacob’s Ladder? It would be hard to say really if this was an actual vision, repressed memory stored within the unconscious, or to be metaphorically decoded – being in the “middle way” associating with your belief in God.
I have many dreams of ladders. One recently was with my deceased Grandmother who was in the middle of it talking to me about spirituality. Her voice would switch between a man to her voice. I couldn’t really make out what the dream was about. A man came in and started to fix a light bulb. I forgot to mention that I noticed a rat leaving the garage before I went in. I was picking up old food so the rat wouldn’t eat and come back. Another dream I had was to do with me and my uncle going up… Read more »
